Let's get something straight: self expression and fashion has no limits. Even with business professional settings, you can still Dress to Express. "How do you do this?" you may be thinking. It's tricky, a little complicated, but well worth the trouble.
I genuinely believe dressing to Express is critical in business professional settings. If you're looking to make an impression on others, standing out is critical. You don't want to blend in and be another person in a crowded room. Today, I will be filling you in on one of the trickiest tasks of fashion.
Traditional with a Twist and Plenty of Tips
Following the dress code to a business professional event is necessary. You don't want to be under-dressed or appear foolish.
Wear yoga pants or sweat pants. If the event calls for black pants, don't even reach for your yogas or black jeans. Slacks are critical to appearing knowledgeable and credible.
I recommend going to a local consignment shop for slacks. You can find name brand, expensive, and quality slacks for pennies when you check out consignment shops. Plus, it's green! Reuse and save some dough.
Step in with scuffed or scummy shoes. Ladies, find yourself a cobbler to repair your heels. Sometimes the little nubs on the bottom of your heels may break down or rip off. Don't toss your shoes in the trash, repair them. Having a cobbler who can repair your shoes will save you money as well as be greener than fast fashion. Help Mother Earth and help yourself by finding a go-to cobbler to sweep into action.
Have Designated Business Professional Items
You never know when you'll be in a pinch and need to go to a meeting, conference, or appearance. Having items designated for those circumstances is great to have in order to be prepared.
Got the basics down? Time to twist it!
Pick a Color, Now Pop
Don't fear color. Seriously. How many grey and black suits do you daily? It's monotonous... and you can stand out by simply picking a color and embracing it.
Here's an example: I had my basic black blouse on for a business conference. I wanted to make a statement. I grabbed my yellow blazer and heels and paired them to stand out but also fit the business professional standards.
Bonus round: Using the same blouse, heels, and blazer I skipped my traditional black slacks and paired plaid printed pants with the same yellow streak.
Best part: This outfit did not break the bank! The blazer was $11 (thrift), blouse was $10 (thrift), hat was $3 (Rue 21 closing sale), heels were $15 (Payless), and slacks were $12 (thrift). (Luggage is vintage PanAm luggage from my Aunt).
Patterns and Prints, Please!
Same with the bold pop of color, patterns and prints are usually avoided in business professional settings. Forget that! POP THAT PATTERN AND BREAK OUT THE PRINTS!
I took the same black blouse from the previous look and twisted it! Grabbing a black and white polka dotted blazer and matching heels with a similar look, I created a bold but business professional outfit. The look took the traditional black and white styles but gave it a twist with the pop of purple and polka dot pattern.
Bonus round: Out of the business setting and on the go? Swap heels for bold flats and drop the blazer. Add a statement necklace (like my Fork Squid) to the look.
Everyone has their own unique style! I highly recommend experimenting with business professional options but it is not forced. Feel comfortable in your look and be yourself!
Special thanks to Marketing EDGE for inviting me to the Marketing EDGE New York Summit. I gained endless information and insight from the conference and greatly appreciate the opportunity.
The blog post you didn't ask for and the blog post you didn't think you needed. This is not a joke. Your girl, 20 years old, twenty years old, just bought a pair of Heelys. HEELYS. I kid you not, I bought a pair of adult Heelys. So on a scale to 1-Dunkaroos, how nostalgic are you ready to get?
Here they are. The package I waited over a week for.
Let me preface:
A few weeks ago, I was discussing nostalgia with some friends. We talked about our favorite Disney, Nick and Cartoon Network shows, lunch time at school and what was good to get, and favorite stores and trends. And, of course, Heelys popped up in our conversation.
Who could forget Heelys? They were in the family tree of roller skates and roller blades. All the coolest kids had them, and wore them out. Grocery stores and schools banned them
But what happens in 2017? It's been a long time since Heelys were on anyone's mind. Are they still banned? That's for me to find out!
"I'm a kid again!"
Whoomp, There It Is
Just as beautiful as I could ever imagine. My 2017 Heelys. Growing up, I had the black pair with pink accents. They fit my wannabe Avril Lavigne attitude and style. Nearly a decade (or more) later, I tracked down these princess worthy Heelys complete with a cotton candy/lollipop design. I was shocked, in disbelief, amazed, that I actually purchased Heelys for myself.
Of course I had to go out in style during my first day of revealing my Heelys! While passing others in the hallways of my university, I wanted to look and seem like a time traveler from the early 2000s.
I grabbed my Heelys and brought my inner DJ Tanner look to life!
The Throwback Look
90s dad? Time traveler? Someone who's a little too nostalgic? Whatever you want to call this look, it's definitely...unlike my daily style.

Away for the Day
After a day of skating around, shocking others, and bringing joy and an upbeat feeling to my day; I took my wheels out and headed back home.
You might think I'm frivolous with money for buying Heelys. You might think I'm plain stupid. Or you might think I'm an absolute legendary genius. Whatever you think, that's okay. Because buying Heelys made me feel that childhood joy I had on Christmas Eve so long ago.
It's the little things in life that make you happy, and trust me, these made my day.
**also if you think I'm stupid for buying Heelys, I think you're just jealous of my sick kicks!

What if the work place didn't have to be like the movies? What if the stale, grey cubicles were brightly colored and full of energy? Rethinking corporate headquarters and office spaces has been a recent occurrence. Companies like Google and Zappos promote its employees to have fun and to dress however they like while on the job. More and more, companies have ditched tradition for a modern day twist.
Balitello: Revolutionizing The Work Place
Introducing Balitello, the socks that will revolutionize your work place. They are coined as "Performance Dress Socks" and are available through the Montly Sock Club Balitello offers. Affordable, comfortable, convenient and versatile; these socks mean business!
These socks allow people to dress to express while at the work place, which can be one of the most difficult things to do when dress codes are strict. Combining "workplace appropriate and nightlife approved" patterns and styles with aspects such as breathable material and heel support, these socks are a no brainer!

Heel Support for When The Day Isn't Short
Ladies, you know the pain of heels. Mostly when you've worn heels all day, and the day wasn't short. One of my favorite parts about Balitello socks is the arch and heel support. I have plantar fasciitis, meaning my feet kill at the end of the day, to the point some days I can't walk whatsoever. Balitello helps prevent those painful feet flareups.
In Site or Not, These Socks Rock
As everyone knows, I have a passion for fashion and a love for the bright, vivid, and unique aspects of style. I love patterns and I love to stand out. But standing out can be frowned upon in some work places (I know that from a few professional and internship experiences). Balitello socks allows you to bring out your personality in your clothes but allows you to keep it quiet (if your work place is more traditional).
Balitello helps me stay true to myself!
Business Professional or Casual, Balitello is a Fit!
Whether you're in the office or out on the town, these socks are versatile. Your friends will notice your pop of color and they wont be able to resist asking where you purchased them. Bold colors, bolder patterns, these socks will leave an impression on others and tell a story, without you saying anything!

There is nothing that I love more than thrift shopping. Almost all of my clothes are from thrift shops, consignment shops, vintage stores, or hand-me-downs.
I love thrifting. The thrill of the deals. The excitement of searching and finding unique articles of clothing. When I discover a unique find, I feel like an archaeologist who just found bones from creatures from long ago. Plus, THE DEALS. Enough said.
I'm constantly asked, "Samantha, where did you get that ____" or something like "That dress was only $10? How and where?".
Look no further, those questions will be answered! This is the start to many hauls, bargain shopping, and unboxing blog posts.
